I was thinking about the vibe for a song I wanted to write and Steve Winwood’s hit 'High Life' came to mind, a song I always liked. I searched on Google and found it was on a compilation album 'Life is a Highway' and that title sowed a seed. The analogy of life as a highway really clicked with me. You meet others, there are diversions, you have a destination, and depending on your route the journey could be full of joy or pain. These were the themes I explored in the song.
Verse
Like the sunrise in the early morning
What lies ahead will be slowly dawning
Lives and futures never constant through the day
Never knowing with whom our world may cross
Will it bring regret or a magic touch
Like the sun there will be highs and lows each day
Chorus
Travelling life's highway
Heading for a place called tomorrow
Better make the most of today
Whether feeling happiness or sorrow
Travelling life's highway
Heading for a place called tomorrow
Love every second of the day
Time is something you can never borrow
While travelling life's highway
Verse 2
Though we're part way through our journey
No sign that hindsight's gonna come early
No point wanting to re-live moments again
There'll be diversions we want to follow
But what they promise may turn out hollow
Sometimes it's best to change to another lane
Chorus
Travelling life's highway
Heading for a place called tomorrow
Better make the most of today
Whether feeling happiness or sorrow
Travelling life's highway
Heading for a place called tomorrow
Love every second of the day
Time is something you can never borrow
While travelling life's highway
Verse 3
We say hello or goodbye to many
Moments live on as heartfelt memories
But memories can bring love heartache or blame
We'll get to our destination some day
Then we remember the journey some say
Will we fill it with more love laughter or pain
Chorus
Travelling life's highway
Heading for a place called tomorrow
Better make the most of today
Whether feeling happiness or sorrow
Travelling life's highway
Heading for a place called tomorrow
Love every second of the day
Time is something you can never borrow
While travelling life's highway
